i still think there should be a power restriction on what you can drive till your say 21, far too many youngsters having accidents, then at 25 plus you can have whatever you want. its no coincidence most of the members here with the more powerful/expensive or modded seats aint in their teens or twenties even. i still think myself lucky to be insured on a 100 bhp car as my first car at 25 only just passed my test £800, its been a year now and dropped to £480, fully comp with legal cover with quinn direct, but as everyone says no 2 quotes are ever alike. personally with all the costs of motoring, i doubt id want to mod a car, personally id just wait a bit longer and buy the better model.

Persnally mate i think that your paying too much. I was 19 (just passed) and got a 1.4 8v and was paying £1000 with CIS insurance. I know your cars newer and 16v but thats £900 more than i used to pay. Oh and my post code was in birmingham so high risk.

Newer cars would, I'm guessing, be more to insure for a young driver due to the fact they're newer, hence are of higher value.

How much is a Mk2 1.4 Ibiza?
And a Mk4 1.4 16valve?

Quite a difference in price of the vehicle.
Dont think the number of valves makes all that much difference, most new cars have 4valves per cylinder now anyhoo.

Well I'm amazed at the price I managed to get my Altea 2.0Tdi DSG insured for.

Shopped around using Elephant, MoneySupermarket and Confused and ended up at Privelege, £223 fully comp, protected no claims but a slightly larger £350 xs.

Then bought it through Quidco to earn a further £70 cashback.

Final price £153 !!

Stunning, I'm not even that old.

Well, i would just like to add, that my original policy was £2,000 + on a 1.25 fiat punto (R Reg, £1,500 value), which was then lowered by a few hundred pounds when i got into the ibiza. Ive also found a few other cars where it is cheaper to insure a newer car than an older one.

Not sure, but might they think that you would look after a more expensive car? Or possibly, the newer cars dont have as many "boy racers" in them, so not as many claims on that type of car? Or am i along the completely wrong lines with this?

Nope, you could well be right. Insurance premiums are worked out by a whole load of statistics. If the statistic say your a lower risk, the premium goes lower. So if more 18 year olds have accident in 6 year old Corsa's than they do in 1 year old Corsa's, it'll cost more to insure the 6 year old one

I've just used http://www.moneysupermarket.com/motor/ and got a good deal with Tesco's on my new car. Used to be with norwhich union they wanted an extra £300 call that "quote me happy" lol. I rang them up to complete the deal and checked and they said they would still insure with mods but at an extra cost. I suppose i'll find out soon. Just heard Adrian Flux are good too

Just insured my motor through swiftcover, They have a list of allowed mods which include Stainless exhausts & Alloy wheels <£1000, with all my mods on a fabia vRS it came to £340. im 28 and have 4 years NCD with a 6 point SP30 and have a decent postcode. cheaper than elephant,CSMA,Adrian Flux
