The Cannonball Run Europe is drawing closer, and time is running out to book your place in history.

It’s a 2,863-mile, five-day journey that will take you through no less than seven countries, and although the exact route is a closely guarded secret, we can tell you that the Cannonballers will be taking in the sights and sounds of the Swiss Alps and the Mediterranean coast as well as some of Europe’s finest hotels.

The original Cannonball Run was a race across America, and was immortalised in the film of the same name starring Burt Reynolds, Dean Martin and Roger Moore. Although the Cannonball Run Europe is not a race, the competition will be fierce. The object is to cover the route sticking as close to 61mph as possible â€" so supercars can compete with ice-cream vans.

There will be a film crew recording the event for a special 45-minute documentary, using six in-car cameras to capture the individual experiences. There will also be two film crews leap-frogging from location to location to keep abreast of all the action.

The organisers of the Cannonball Run Europe are currently speaking to a brace of celebrities, including Roger Moore who is looking likely to be starting the event.

The list of cars is getting more impressive by the day, and now includes the world’s fastest saloon, the Mercedes Kleemann, a Lotus 340R, a Ferrari 355, 360 and a F40, a Lamborghini Diablo, a couple of Harley-Davidsons and a brace of Porsche Turbos.

To make this amazing event even more unforgettable, participants are being urged to compete in fancy dress to raise money various charities to help young people.

The five-day Cannonball Run Europe 2002 kicks off on the 6th October and includes ferry crossings, accommodation in luxury hotels en-route and pre- and post-event parties, all included in the £2,350 ticket price. The price is based on a driver and a passenger sharing a double room.
