yeah this is perfectly normal. Adjust your driver side mirror to how you want it first then do the passenger one. This way once somebody else jumps in your car and needs to adjust the mirrors they should just adjust the driver side mirror and strictly speaking the passenger one should be set correctly also. In theory it don't work as my girlfriend is always adjusting them to suit her and then it's my turn and we both always have to adjust both.
As far as I was aware its a 'feature' on the car, it happens on mine and is really useful when the missus drives it. Only a guess but this might have been removed off later models? (bruceFR, I note your signature shows you have a late model...)
