its a 00 toledo tdi 110... when driving and the engine reaches working temperature I (quite often) notice that temperature gauge's pointer drops all the way back, than raises, and drops again... sometimes restarting help, sometimes not... ussually it just gets itslf together and works fine...
any1 had a same misbehaviour or knows what might be the cause for this?

might not help you this but anyways, i've got a 52 plate cupra and i had a problem with overheating. turned out to but a broken coolant pump but the bloke at the garage said if the temp gauge goes down its a faulty temp sensor and if it goes up its a broken coolant pump. i don't know if it'll be the same with your toledo tho.

I think you will probably find that the fault will be the thermostat.
I have had in the past different makes of cars that have the same symptoms and and when the thermostat was replaced it was problem solved.Hope this helps.

I had this on the Leon when it came - went back to the stealer and I didn't collect, but i'm pretty sure it was the temp sender
